PRINCE KEPT THE FAITH
Tribute to the Prince by Kingsley Omose I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. – 2 Timothy 4:7
Struck by a degenerative lung condition that ensured that he had to fight for every breath he took to get oxygen into his lungs, Prince Emeka Obasi fought the good fight of faith. With a bottle of oxygen ever present by his side, Prince as we all loved to call him finished the race even though he passed away while still only in his late fifties leaving behind his lovely family.
But more importantly, Prince kept the faith, rather than pulling away from God, he drew closer to God and his
internal spiritual capacity rose to stratospheric levels even as the end grew closer. Prince kept the faith because he fought his medical condition fair and square, headlong the same way he passionately threw himself into any endeavour heembarked on.
Rather than harbour malice or ill-will against any, he penned a book, the man of letters that he was remaining true to his professional calling and launched it, ensuring something sweet will continue to come out of a negative.
Prince kept the faith because his sense of humour never faltered, either with those in his immediate circle of
influence or those who occasionally dropped in for a visit and were hosted by his lovely wife.
Prince represented God in the midst of excruciating pain and incapacity daily picking up his cross and following the Lord Jesus through the almost incalculable situations that needed attending to.
His love for his wife and children and close friends who stood by and with him during the period of his illness
never waned, and his sense of responsibility for the care and upkeep of his family remained his priority.
The period of Prince’s medical condition are for me his most glorious years because it allowed those in the Upper Realm and this earthly dimension witness frst hand this beautiful spectacle.
What stands Prince out during this period is that his actions brought out the best of those around him to also
fght the fght of faith, something that will stand for them in heaven’s records.
So while our prayers will not make any difference to Prince at this point in time, we know that having died he
went immediately to be judged by God and is now sitted at the right hand of our Lord.
We also know that we will one day see him again during the resurrection of the dead and translation of those that are alive as we all end up in the unity of the faith in a common community destiny at the End of Time.
As for Betty and the children and his second shadow Henry, and all those who were part of the process of Prince Emeka
Obasi, you too continue to trust in the Lord and also ensure you are daily fighting the good fight of faith.
