TO MY GREAT COUSIN:
A STRONG SOUL SHINES AFTER EVERY STORM.
There is a purpose for everyone you meet. Some people will test you; some will use you, some will bring out the best in you, but everyone will teach you something about yourself. The great Prince of Ani-Igbo is gone. And my heart, our hearts are broken. Prince Emeka Obasi is irreplaceable in my world. He was my mentor who brought out the best in me. He introduced me into, Public Relations and Advertising, Journalism and taught me somethings about myself that ordinarily I would not have developed the competencies l now acquired. Who will call me again and ask me those brotherly/ friendly and caring questions about my pains and feelings?
Who will gist me about the world affairs and how to prepare for the real next level. Who will give me
many ideas of dealing with situations and confronting circumstances.
Emeka has a beautiful, genuine soul and is one man greatly misunderstood by those who do not know him. He lived beyond his generation. He was a real genius, a gem and a rare breed. Anyone who came in contact with Prince Emeka Obasi would testify to this. He is simply excited when people break the glass ceilings and do very remarkable breakthrough in life. This informs his numerous reasons to question his friends and associates on “What are you doing now?”
If you are not trying on something, he will quickly drop ideas for you to venture into. A man of great ideas, a jolly good fellow, a man filled with empathy. His legacies resonate everywhere he stepped in. While working with him, The Prince conceptualized the Queen Amina Foundation, The Awolowo Foundation, The Yakubu Gowon Centre, The IBB Technology Village, The Zik Prize in Leadership, The Patrioni Books amongst others.
So, Dr (Mrs). Betty Emeka Obasi, the children and indeed all of us to be consoled. For Betty, you are a great daughter of Zion, a virtuous wife with a beautiful soul. You stood by your husband like a Jibroter and abandoned all things for him. Your positivism in God’s infinite Grace and mercies is out of this world. It is indeed infectious! No wonder Emeka stayed tune in oxygen mask for eight years. You must be consoled that your beloved is with God. That is my absolute belief seeing his last days on this Earth.
His last wish was to preach the gospel without dilution and acrimony to show gratitude for God’s grace upon him despite the fact that death was starring him on his face.
Finally, Emeka made peace with His Creator and had chance to forgive those who wronged him for the free passage to eternity in Heaven.
Rest in Peace The Prince until ressurrection day when we shall meet again!
Gaa nke oma ezigbo ñwanne m!
Prince Tony Onyemerenacho
