TRIBUTE TO MY DAD
Writing this tribute is the hardest thing I have ever done in my life. My father, Prince Emeka Obasi Snr lived a great life and left his footprints in the sand of time. He was an exceptional professional, a dedicated father and a loving husband. He was born without a silver spoon yet, through hard work and sheer determination, he reached the pinnacle of his profession by establishing two daily newspaper publications and the Public policy Research and Analysis Centre which organized the annual Zik
award.
My father built relationships with corporate titans and policy-makers throughout Nigeria across ethnic and religious lines. He had a cosmopolitan outlook and cherished the diversity of Nigeria.
Sharing the same name as my father has been the greatest privilege of my life. As the ancient proverb goes, a good name is more desirable than great riches. During the course of his remarkable lifetime, my father positively impacted countless lives and wrote his name in gold.
My father was charismatic, energetic, tenacious and relentless in pursuing his goals, even as his health worsened, he fought hard to ensure that his family never lacked and we maintained our standard of living. I will never forget the moments we shared dad, I will never forget the car rides we went on often. He often remarked how happy he was to see his all his children grow up into capable young adults and he was ever grateful to God for that privilege. As I drove my dad around Ikeja, we spoke extensively and he taught me valuable life lessons that I will never forget.
All people that encountered my father were taken aback by his warmth and generosity. He loved having people around him, his positivity was infectious, and he brought a smile to the faces of whoever was in his presence.
Farewell dad, you came, you saw and you conquered!
You live on in our hearts and your legacy shall stand the test of time.
